Overview

We are starting a project that aims to understand the inter-domain routing policies used in the Internet. The ultimate goal is to use this understanding to improve the efficiency, robustness and expressiveness of routing protocols. Our approach is two-fold:
  1. Active measurements to observe paths taken in practice. These measurements would help us understand the impact of inter-domain policies on the paths taken in the network.
  2. Studying the BGP config files. A survey of real world configs would help us understand the class of policies used in the Internet. If you adminisiter an ISP network, you can help us by donating your configuration file to this project.
